7 Maine Barn Wedding Venues to Consider
Maine is a stunning place to get married. We seem to have it all... sandy beaches, rocky coast, mountains and lakes, four beautiful seasons and a perfect big little city (Portland). There are hundreds of places to get married and as a Maine based wedding photographer I've had the luck to travel around this beautiful state and photograph at many of them. Specifically because of the state’s rural and agricultural heritage, there are many beautiful barns and old farms that no longer shelter tractors and hay but have been turned into stunning wedding venues. These are seven of my favorites.
Clark’s Cove Farm and Inn
For smaller and more intimate weddings along Maine's midcoast, I would recommend Clark's Cove Farm and Inn, a working apple orchard (fall weddings here are spectacular!) near Damariscotta and only minutes from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Quiet, simple and beautiful. It doesn't get more Maine than this!
Hardy Farm
Up in the foothills of the western Maine mountains near Fryeburg, almost into New Hampshire, you’ll find Hardy Farm nestled in the rolling fields of the Saco River Valley. Hardy has a beautiful white washed barn interior and a dedicated ceremony space tucked away in the woods. The farm also owns a house connected by trail where members of the wedding party can stay.
The Barn on Walnut Hill
Only 25 minutes from Portland in the quiet town of North Yarmouth you’ll find The Barn on Walnut Hill. Resting on four acres, this old farmhouse and barn has been beautifully restored and professionally decorated. The Barn is massive and can accommodate up to 200 people. There is a boardwalk to a beautiful ceremony spot in the woods behind the barn.
William Allen Farm
William Allen Farm is set on 63 expansive acres near the towns of Freeport and Brunswick, half an hour north of Portland. The farm features an expansive 200 year old barn and a small section of the house can be used by the bridal party to get ready in. The grounds feature a pond, fields and sections of woods which are especially pretty during the Fall.
Cunningham Farm
Nestled in the pastoral farmland of south/central Maine in the town of New Gloucester, Cunningham Farm boasts not one but THREE vintage barns. One barn is large and can hold a large wedding reception, the other two are medium sized and great for cocktail hour and getting ready. The house is also available as a getting ready location. The farm is set on 90 acres and includes the barns, house, fields and a stunning tree farm.
The Bear Mountain Inn
Situated in the foothills of the White Mountains in western Maine, the Bear Mountain Inn features a full service B&B, barn and lake front to keep your guests entertained and comfortable for your wedding weekend. The Inn is refreshingly hip, modern and beautifully designed. The grounds are a mix of woods, fields and lakeshore.
Broadturn Farm
Located in Scarborough, just outside of Portland, Broadturn Farm is different from the other farms on this list in that it is still a working organic farm. From their website, "Celebrate your love and connect it to your values here at Broadturn Farm. Getting married on an organic farm expresses individuality and a commitment to the beauty of local, organic food and flowers. A wedding is an opportunity to share this vision of sustainability with your loved ones. Each event is unique, and crafted to honor the season and the bounty available. Your wedding will reflect your value of local businesses, healthy ecosystems, and delicious food, with a minimum of mainstream commercialism."
